(July 1, 2018) In its nearly 100 years of service to the greater Philadelphia community, Fort Washington-based Timoney Knox, LLP has prided itself on the longevity and dedication of its attorneys.

That tradition continues with Scott H. Wolpert, Esquire, who is assuming the role of Managing Partner effective July 1, 2018. Wolpert, who heads the firm’s Students’ Rights Department, joined the firm in 1992 and became a partner in 2003.

George M. Riter, Esquire has served as the firm’s Managing Partner for the past 11 years. Riter’s stepping down will permit him to devote more time to his Trust, Estate and Corporate practice, as well as general trust and estate administration. Riter will continue to serve on the firm’s Executive Committee and chair of the firm’s Trust and Estate Department.

A University of Richmond School of Law graduate, Wolpert has more than 20 years’ experience in education and special education law and litigation. In 2016, he established the firm’s Students’ Rights Department. The expanded practice focuses on representing children and their parents through special education advocacy and due process litigation, including ensuring the appropriateness of educational programs and placements for students with disabilities and legal compliance by schools districts and charter schools.

Wolpert served as a mock trial coach through the Pennsylvania Bar Association from 1998 to 2009. He is a past president of the LaSalle College High School Alumni Association and is a past member of the Board of Advisors of the Norwood-Fontbonne Academy. Wolpert currently serves on the Board of Directors of Planned Lifetime Assistance Network of Pennsylvania, which provides care management and trust services to families of persons with disabilities. Wolpert also serves on the Board of Directors of the Maxwell Football Club and he is a NCAA Division I football official.

Timoney Knox, LLP, has been an anchor in the Montgomery County and the surrounding areas since its founding in 1921. Attorney Thomas A. Foulke founded the law firm from an office on Butler Pike in Ambler. The firm has evolved to employ a comprehensive staff of 26 attorneys, 5 paralegals and 18 support staff members who address its clients’ diverse needs.

In the past 31 years, the firm has only had two managing partners. Michael O’Hara Peale, Jr. who dedicated 47 years to Timoney Knox and served as Managing Partner from 1987 through 2007, and Riter who served between 2007 and 2018. When asked, Riter was quick to point out that “this change is good for the firm. It is part of the succession plan and promotes the continuity and overall stability of the Firm as Timoney Knox approaches its 100th year in the community.”

As the firm has grown over the decades, the constant has been firm members’ commitment to the community. Members of the firm have consistently taken active roles in government service, civic, charitable, professional and community organizations and have been chosen for leadership roles in these organizations.
